What is an ENV SP?
An ENV Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) is an ISI credentialed practitioner who is trained to use the Envision™ sustainable infrastructure rating system as a guide to address triple bottom line sustainability dimensions in the design, construction, and operation of an infrastructure project.

Each ENV SP works as an integral part of a project team with civil engineers, environmental engineers, infrastructure planners, construction managers, architects, transportation professionals, public policy leaders, public works professionals and other stakeholders to achieve the highest level of sustainability for their infrastructure projects.

Why should I become an ENV SP?
When you hold the ENV SP credential, employers, policymakers, and other stakeholders are assured of your competence in using Envision™. An ENV SP must work with the project team for an infrastructure project to qualify for ISI Recognition. As an ENV SP, you will advance your technical expertise and provide value to your company by being trained in the use and application of the Envision™. You will guide your project team on ways to improve the sustainability of a project under design, construction, and operations. You will also work with an ISI Verifier to demonstrate how your project meets Envision™ criteria.

How do I become an ENV SP?
To become an ENV SP, you must complete an application, complete the online accreditation training webinars or in-person accreditation workshop, and pass the ENV SP test. ISI training will teach you how to use and apply the rating system to infrastructure projects, and the test will ensure you understand the course material. You do not need to be a sustainability 'expert' to be a successful ENV SP.

How long is the ENV SP credential valid?
The Envision™ Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential is valid for three (3) years starting on the date the ENV SP exam is passed. Details on re-credentialing or updating existing credentials at the end of the three-year period have not been determined. Any training that may be required prior to the three-year expiration date for existing credentials due to changes in the Envision™ rating system will be provided to ENV SPs on a complimentary basis.

How does a project owner benefit from having an ENV SP on their project team?
Envision™ is a tool that will help you to choose between economically viable alternatives to achieve the most economic, social, and environmental benefits.

ENV SPs are trained in the use and application of the Envision™. With an ENV SP guiding your project team on ways to improve the sustainability measures, you can achieve recognition for your dedication to sustainable stewardship and consideration of the long-term effects of your infrastructure project. An ENV SP must be part of the project team for a project to be considered for an ISI award.

The ENV SP will work with the entire project team to identify how to reach higher levels of achievement in the five ISI credit categories: Quality of Life, Leadership, Resource Allocation, Natural World, and Climate and Risk. The ENV SP is a central component in applying for ISI Recognition.

How do I become an ISI Verifier?
ISI Verifiers provide independent, third-party verification of an Envision™ project assessment. Verifiers work with ENV SPs during the review process and verify the documentation, levels of achievement for individual credits, and the overall rating score of the final project assessment submitted to ISI. They ensure ISI project assessments are accurate and that the same standards are applied from one project to the next. To become an ISI Verifier, you must be an ENV SP and participate in additional training.

What is an ISI Trainer?
ISI Trainers deliver high-quality, in-person ENV SP training workshops that qualify participants to take the ENV SP credential exam. Only ISI approved trainers can facilitate accreditation workshops. Scheduled courses are announced on the ISI LinkedIn group. To contact an ISI Trainer near you or to host an accreditation training workshop, use the ENV SP Directory.

How may I use the ENV SP designation?
An ENV SP is a professional credential that you may include on your resume, business card and/or other professional identification. It also qualifies you to submit projects for Envision™ third-party project Verification. Only applications endorsed by an ENV SP will be accepted for consideration of an Envision™ award.

Do I have to be an ENV SP to use Envision™ Rating System?
No you do not have to be an ENV SP to use Envision™. Anyone can use the Envision™ Checklist for a quick assessment or can use the Envision™ Workbook for a more in-depth project assessment. To go through project Verification and to be eligible for awards, the project team must include an ENV SP who will guide the team through the use of Envision™.
